Outline of Aomori Port
Aomori is the northernmost major port on Honshu, located on the interior coast of Mutsu Bay. Its geographic coordinates are 140:45E, 40:40N.
Because of its location—surrounded by the Tsugaru Peninsula to the west, the Shimokita Peninsula to the northeast, and the Natsudomari Peninsula directly to the east—Aomori Port boasts an exceptional degree of natural tranquility among Japan’s northern ports; its wave heights average less than 0.5 meters over 90% of the year.
In addition, Aomori Port is adjacent to central Aomori city, the prefectural capital and an important transportation hub connecting northern Honshu with Hokkaido. Aomori city provides direct service to Seoul from Aomori airport; access to the Tokyo metropolitan area via the Tōhoku expressway, Tōhoku Shinkansen bullet train, and local train lines; direct access to the prefectural border with Iwate prefecture via Aoi Mori Rail; and access to Hokkaido via the nearby ferry wharf.
Aomori Port’s annual amount of precipitation is around 1,400mm. It has a cool climate year round and enjoys clear transitions between the four seasons. Nature’s beauty can be fully relished in all seasons.

History of Aomori Port
Aomori first became a port in 1624, when the second Tsugaru lord, Tsugaru Nobuhira, bestowed the name “Aomori” on the small fishing village of Utō. After this, Aomori developed as a commercial port, and the Tōhoku main rail line was opened in 1892, followed by the local Ōu rail line 3 years later. Aomori has been Hokkaido’s front door since 1909. The Seikan line steamships connected Honshu to Hokkaido for 80 years, from 1909-1988. Aomori also has an important role in commodity distribution for all of the Tōhoku area.
Year Timeline of Historic Events
1624 In the time of the 2nd load of tsugaru-han,Tsugaru Nobuhira,his general Moriyama Yashichiro made a field survey.The poat of Aomori was opened in order to transport rice to Edo(Tokyo) by sea.
1865 The feudal government designated the port of Aomori and the port of Sai travel port, as important port of connecting Hokkaido and main island
1873 Steam borts went into service between Aomori and Hakodate.
1876 The Meiji-maru taking the Meiji-empelr on the boad set sail from Aomori for The port of Yokohama.
1906 Aomori Port was designated as a Special Export Port.
1907 Aomor Port was designated as the Second Class Important Harbor.
1908 Management of the Seikan Channel passes to the Ministry of Railways and a railway ferry service begins.
1915 Commenced construction of the first period (completed in 1924. Storage for trains and related items is possible.)
1922 Removing limitations on imports, the port becomes a free port of trade.
1932 Aomori Port the second period extended construction commenced(completed in 1943.
1951 Aomori Port was designated as inportant harbor and the first class harbor.Chuo Pier 3000t quay construction began.(Completed in 1954)
1953 Port management passes from prefectural to city level. Aomori Port Harbour Area is created.
1954 Designated as the first class harbor by the Public Waters Reclamation Law.
1956 Construction of Hamamachi Pier commenced.(completed the western side of 10000tons quay in 1962.completed the eastern side of 10000tons quay and 5000tons quay in 1963.
1958 Designated as a Import Port of timber and a Qquarantine Ports
1963 Commenced construction of Tsutsumi pier-7.5m(5000tons、berthNo.2)(completed in 1968)
1964 Port management passes from city to prefectual level.
1965 Commenced construction of the timberport in Aburakawa Area (comleted in 1970)
1966 ompletion the base of Hamamachi quay(2000tons, berth No.2) 
1970 Commenced construction of the ferry base in Okidate area (completed the base and a quay berth No.3 in 1974 and a quay berth No.1 in 1975)
1972 With the Harbour Area and the addition of Asamushi, the area becomes around 48km

2002 Complation of the first stage reclamation in Main Port.
2003 Complation a quay(-10m) of Shin-chuo Pier.(opened in August, 2003)
2004 Complation of the construction of a Northern Water Communion Breakwater.(popularly called Aomori Bay Promenade)(opened in April, 2004) completion of International Pier facilities .(Tsutsumi pier -10m quay,Shin chuo pier (-10m)quay and Okidate pier(-10m and -13m)quay. Commence of the implement of safety and counterterrorism measures. Commence of a Snow Melting System on Aomori bay bridge.
2006 Complation of Aoiumi park conecting bridge and opened.
2007 Complationed and opened of Asamushi Green Space.(Nov,22 2007)
